Seadragons Week 2
Hello Seadragons!
Here comes the sun! While we had a pretty wet and chilly start to the season, this week looks great. It was wonderful to see all the swimmers, coaches and families last week.
We have over 175 swimmers this season! A special thanks to Brianne Cerni, our Registration Coordinator for working closely with the Rec Center to get all swimmers registered and set up in SwimTopia.
Here’s your checklist for the week with details below:
- Practices
- Declare your swimmer for the upcoming Swim Meets on SwimTopia!
- Family Volunteer Requirement
- Officials Training
- Dine & Donate
Practice Information
A couple of notes so that practice can run smoothly and effectively:
- We ask that parents keep to the upper level of the swimming pool deck and reserve the bottom deck for coaches and swimmers. This will help minimize distractions and allow the coaches to do what they do best, coach!
- If you do have questions for the coaches, either approach them before or after practice, but keep in mind that most are transitioning to the next practice. It is advisable that you send an email to [email protected]. When using email, please label the subject with your swimmer’s name and their age group. It is an expectation that coaches will respond in 48 hours, if not sooner. It’s helpful to notify coaches if you are planning on being away for vacation for an extended time, or ill.
- If your swimmer is also a camp participant through the Wyoming Rec Center, please be sure to check in with the Camp each time you bring your swimmer to the Rec Center. You can drop off at Camp and a Camp Counselor will take your swimmer to and from practice. They will have a Seadragon roster and will know which group your swimmer is in. You can also drop off at the pool, but you will still need to go around and notify camp that your swimmer is here that day. Make notes to camp when you check in for any special communication, i.e. your swimmer needs help getting on deck for the home swim meet, someone else will be picking up to transport to a swim meet.
- Learn more about our awesome coaches through our social media pages here and here.
- Every Friday is a fun practice for the kids. Coaches will have skill building and fun challenges for all swim levels.
- Something fun - During these first two weeks of practices, swimmers will get a vote during each practice they attend for the upcoming swim meet themes.
General Swim Meet Information
- Go through the calendar of events and declare your swimmers ahead of time (mark if they will be attending or not attending). It makes it difficult for the coaches if they have to follow up with families after the deadline to make their line up for the meet in a timely manner. Any swimmer that is marked “undeclared” will be marked as “not attending”.
- SwimTopia> Login (upper right)> Click on the Green Button “Meet Entry Open” You can edit your swimmers status and write any notes to the coaches.
- If you need some pointers on how to prepare for a swim meet, please check out some of these tips. There are also two detailed videos on Instagram and Facebook here and here on how to prepare for our swim meets.
- If something comes up and you cannot make it to a swim meet that you have already declared your swimmer for, please let the coaches know ASAP. This is especially important because of relays. If one swimmer does not show up for a relay, there will be three other disappointed swimmers that can’t swim the relay. Call or text Coach Jen at 513-335-0916.
- Special note for Junior Seadragon families – your swimmer will not participate in swim meets until they receive special instructions from Coach Jen when they are invited to start swimming in meets. You are always welcome to attend the meets to see what they are like and cheer on your teammates.
Upcoming Swim Meets
More details about the upcoming meets will be sent directly to those who will be attending each meet.
Saturday, June 7, Rec Center (Intersquad Meet)
This will be a fun and competitive meet and will help us get some idea of times to start the season. We will go slow and explain everything. The deadline to declare is Wednesday, June 4th. There will be concessions available for $1/each. Cash only.
Jr. Seadragon families-we still need concession donations.
All families-we still need wranglers and timers.
Tuesday, June 10, Wyoming Rec Center vs. Blue Ash
- Deadline to declare: June 7
Thursday, June 12, @ Sharonville Rec Center
- Deadline to declare: June 7
Family volunteer requirements and opportunities
Each family must sign up for 4 volunteer worker positions at one of our home meets, away meets, or team events. This includes 3 during the regular season and 1 at Champs. All volunteer slots for the season are available online and each event needing volunteers has a “Job Signup open” button. We’ve designated specific volunteer slots for only Junior Seadragon families. If you would like to hire a teen to work your volunteer slot, there is a list and you can make arrangements directly with those teens. We have an extensive list of teens this season, but book them now! https://wyomingseadragons.swimtopia.com/helpers-for-hire
Questions? Contact Volunteer Coordinator- Lisa Schmid, [email protected].
Officials Training
We can always use more officials on deck. No past official or swim team experience necessary. In one hour, they will teach you what you need to know and there will be opportunities to shadow other officials. There are two officials trainings this season. You only need to attend one. If you can attend, please declare your attendance here.
- Wednesday, June 4 @6pm Sharonville Recreation Center OR
- Friday, June 6 @ 6:30pm Wyoming Police Station Meeting Room
Dine & Donate
Drop in for some sweet treats at Sugar Shack by the Tracks on June 5th between 5-9pm. Mention that you are with the Seadragons and a portion of the sale will be donated back to the Seadragons! Some of our Parent Board members will also be available throughout the night to answer any questions or help you get set up on SwimTopia. There will also be an informal Q&A for parents at 5:30 and then again at 8pm (with Coach Jen). Bring your questions.
